Velia and Magna Grecia - get to know the ancient Elea
At the northern border of Ascea is placed Elea, a city which attracted Greeks in the VI century A.D, because of the extraordinary likeness with their motherland. Elea, after called Velia by Romans, grain fame thanks to the prosperity in maritime trades, its beauty, the presence of a philosophical school with strong medical worthiness founded by Parmenide, one of the eight headmaster doctors of all the ancient world. You will see the archeological ruins of Velia, placed on a beautiful hill. At the end of the archeological tour you will visit a local cheese factory, assist at the cheese-processing, and savor this products.

Cilento - Art & People
Departure to Marina di Camerota and visit of Lentiscella’s Cave, where is situated the famous sailing ship “Leon di Caprera”. Keep going to Camerota Alta visiting its historical center, and its craft stores. Follows the SS Annunziata’s Sanctuary of Licusati where there is the statue of SS Annunziata, a wood sculpture made by Germans. Visit a local olive-press and testing of typical Cilentani products. After you will visit the valley below and the medieval village of San Severino, where everything remain unchanged, enshroud in a mysterious silence. Trees, bushes, and leaves now cover this unmanned place.

San Lorenzo’s Carthusian Monastery and Petrosa’s caves
Departure to Padula, visit the Carthusian Monastery of san Lorenzo, a splendid model of religious architecture, built in the XIV century, with its 50.000 mq became the biggest religious architecture in Italy. Visit to the Angelo’s caves which origins date back to 35 million of years ago. The caves wind for 2500m, going through tunnels, caves, and caverns. You will ferry on a lake originate from an underground river.
